Exciting News! New Countdown Timer
Info

In an absolutely thrilling development, Mototheory.com now has a new and more interesting countdown timer. You can find this outstanding bit of craftsmanship in all its glory right there on the left-hand side of the page (yes, right, then left). This is exciting news for all of you who built your own special calendar to keep track of how many days were left until riders hit the track again. Exciting, very exciting.

Wow...I really need the season to start again...

Laguna Seca Results Delayed
Info

All data and stats are updated now. Apologies for the delay.

Well, I just got back from Laguna Seca finishing a 1600+ mile ride. Getting settled back in has made updating the database with the latest results a little slow. I should have them up within the next 24 hours.

I'll also be posting up a short review of my trip.

New Data Available - Results by Factory
Info

Prompted by a request from MotoMatters Editor David Emmett, I put together a query similar to the General Rider Results Query which allows you to search the results of each factory and limit the search criteria.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Rider Info Overhaul
Info

I just finished an overhaul of the presentation of the Rider section. Now, all the stats are on a single page but separated by tabs. This makes switching between the different data sets instantaneous. I think it also looks better.

I’ll be making similar changes to all the sections and in particular the MotoGP Prediction Contest section. Hopefully, this will make everything faster and easier to find.

Finally, New Updates
Info

I have been working primarily on the Prediction contest so I have been slacking on publishing any new stats. I have built quite a few queries but haven't had the opportunity to polish and publish them.

I just posted the first of several updates you will see over the next several weeks. The new query shows the everage gap between the first and second place finishers by year. Coming up shortly, I will be adding some related queries showing the same sort of stats by year. The new query is published under the "Tracks' section. In there I added a new section for track-related queries.

Enjoy and let me know what you think.

New - General Rider Results Query
Info

Ever found yourself trying to remember what year it was that Haga got on the box? Or How many times Stoner has crashed?

The General Results Query is intended to help track down the answers to those sort of questions. You can select a rider and then choose from a set of filtersto find exactly what you are looking for.

Rider vs Rider Improved
Info

I just added the ability to filter, by season, the RvR results. Now you can select which years to compare one rider to another.

Today, I got the Rider vs Rider query fixed. Now, you can see not only the number of times one rider scored higher than another, you can also see what tracks and how many times at each track.

Soon, you will also be able to limit what years to look at so, if you wanted to know how many times Capirossi beat Vermeulen while both were on Suzukis (18 times) you could do so.

Care to Prove that?
Info

I have 20 years worth of data. Most of it is sitting untouched.

Everyone has a theory or something they believe is true about MotoGP and it's riders. Well, I have the data to prove you right.

So, what do you need to know?

Technical Issue - Resolved
Info

Update:

Issues were resolved  on Friday (7/31). If you notice anything not working or working strangely, just post it in the comments and I will take a look.

Posted 7/30:

I am experiencing technical difficulties following a failed update.

I am working the problem and hope to have it fix soon but I may not be able to get support for another 18 hours or so.

Welcome
Info

MotoTheory is intended to provide some of the answers that many of us have about MotoGP history. I hope that you will find some of these data and stats useful or interesting. Since data is only of value if there are questions, I hope that you will share some of the questions you have. Tracking down these answers will help to build out the data set that will make this resource of value to more people.

With that, I have created a few queries that give some interesting insight into some of what has happened and I have several more that I am working on. However, I am looking to those who visit here to know what answers you are looking or? What questions do you have? If there is some bit of information that you are looking for just post it in the comments section either here or following any of the pages you come across.
